Nexperia Automotive ASFETs

Nexperia Automotive ASFETs are Application-Specific MOSFETs optimized for specific use cases. As designers push the boundaries of application performance, it is increasingly crucial to understand how the MOSFET will be used in the application. In the past, a standard power switch with a given Figure of Merit (RDS(on) x Qg) would essentially work in any application. However, to address specific application requirements or functionality, optimizing a set of MOSFET parameters is increasingly necessary to match those requirements. For example, applications may require enhanced linear mode performance or repetitive avalanche functionality. Nexperia combines proven MOSFET expertise with broad application understanding to create an expanding range of Application-Specific MOSFETs.

Nexperia Automotive ASFETs are designed to meet the needs of a range of automotive and inductive loads:

  • Qualified to AEC-Q101
  • Guaranteed repetitive avalanche performance, tested up to 1 billion cycles
  • Rugged silicon technology combined with the thermal performance of LFPAK ensures die temperature stays below 175°C
  • Using a single MOSFET reduces BOM and circuit complexity, delivering system cost and space savings
  • ASFETs offer a modern trench alternative to older planar technologies
  • ASFETs provide increased efficiency and faster switching in comparison to the freewheeling diode approach

These Automotive ASFETs include half-bridge (high side and low side) MOSFETs constructed in the space-saving LFPAK56D and LFPAK33 package formats. The half-bridge configuration is a standard building block for many automotive applications, including motor drives and DC-DC converters. The LFPAK56D half-bridge occupies a 30% lower PCB area than dual MOSFETs due to the removal of PCB tracks while permitting simple automated optical inspection (AOI) during production. The LFPAK56D package uses flexible leads to improve overall reliability, and an internal copper clip connection between the MOSFETs simplifies PCB design by offering a plug-and-play solution with exceptional current handling capability.
