October 10, 2024Mouser Electronics, Inc., the industry's leading New Product Introduction (NPI) distributor with the widest selection of semiconductors and electronic components™, is now stocking the BOS1211 CapDrive® piezo haptic driver from Boréas Technologies. The BOS1211 is a scalable, low-power piezo haptic controller based on patented CapDrive technology. The BOS121 allows automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and tier-one suppliers to add highly responsive, tactile feedback to buttons and sliders on displays and other human-machine interfaces (HMI).

The Boréas Technologies BOS1211 CapDrive piezo haptic driver, now available at Mouser, is designed to drive TDK's PowerHap 120V piezo actuators or similar loads with up to 120V HD haptic low-distortion waveforms. The BOS1211 features a piezo sensing interface that detects pressure on the piezo actuator, plays automatic haptic waveform feedback, and notifies the user. Piezo haptic buttons, supported by the BOS1211, improve on older haptic technologies, offering faster response times and an extended frequency range compared to linear resonant actuators (LRAs). Tactile feedback from Piezo haptic buttons allows drivers to confirm button presses without looking away from the road, improving driver safety.

The BOS1211 runs waveforms through an integrated digital front-end and SPI interface. The interface integrates 1024-sample internal FIFO, a waveform synthesizer, and 2 KBytes of RAM for waveform memory. The BOS1211 CapDrive Piezo Haptic Driver is delivered in a wettable flank QFN-24 package, providing a space-efficient solution for haptic applications. The BOS1211 is AEC-Q100 Grade 2 qualified.

Apie Boréas Technologies

2026 - Boréas Technologies is a Canadian company specializing in piezoelectric haptic driver technology. The company's pioneering work focuses on creating high-definition haptic feedback solutions using piezoelectric actuators, which transform electrical energy into precise mechanical motion. This technology enables device manufacturers to implement sophisticated touch feedback that goes beyond traditional vibration motors, offering more nuanced and responsive haptic experiences in a variety of applications, from mobile devices to automotive interfaces.

Piezoelectric materials have the unique ability to change shape when electricity is applied, and, conversely, generate electricity when mechanical pressure is applied. By precisely controlling these materials through specialized driver circuits, Boréas creates incredibly detailed tactile sensations that feel more realistic and responsive than conventional haptic solutions. This technology represents a significant advancement in how users interact with devices through touch feedback.
